Ambassador of the YEAR 2007

AMBASSADOR OF THE QUARTER

Carolyn Mullins
SMOKE BROTHERS FLOWERS

AMBASSADOR OF THE MONTH

Ambassador of the Month

Every month, an Ambassador will be chosen at the Ambassador meeting to have their business card publicized in the Business Connection newsletter.  This individual will also have the chance to give a short, impromptu, speech at the meeting.  Business cards are drawn “out of a hat” to determine the individual who receives this opportunity.  Once an ambassador is chosen, he or she cannot drop their business card in the drawing for one year, so that every Ambassador gets an opportunity to appear at least once in a year.

Ambassador of the Quarter

Every four months, the SWCCC Ambassador Committee will honor an Ambassador of the Quarter.  This individual will receive, in addition to recognition, the following: a certificate stating this achievement, their picture and brief write up in the Chamber Newsletter, as well as the Chamber Website and a link from the Chamber website to the individual’s business website.  A person cannot be honored for more than one quarter a year.  However, they can be eligible for Ambassador of the year.

Criteria for Ambassador of the Quarter

Attendance to meetings and events
Adopting members
Referral of new members
Volunteering for events
Bringing non-members to events

Ambassador of the Year

At the end of the year, one of the four Ambassador’s of the quarter will honored as Ambassador of the Year.  This individual will receive, in addition to recognition, the following: a certificate stating this achievement, their picture and brief write up in the Chamber Newsletter, as well as the Chamber Website, a link from the Chamber website to the individual’s business website, and a free table to an ABO of their choice.  Whoever has fulfilled the most criteria, will receive this honor.

Chamber Bucks

The SWCCC, gives Chamber Bucks to members, as a thank you.  Chamber Bucks may be used in the following ways:

Admittance to ABO’s (After Business, Ours), to purchase a booth at an ABO, Admittance to Legislative Forums*, tickets to the Salute to Government Officials and tickets to the Black Tie.  Future additions may be made to this list.

Chamber Bucks can only be used by the person who receives them; and may not be used for co-workers, spouses, friends, family, etc.  Chamber Bucks are non-refundable and hold no monetary value.

Ways to acquire Chamber Bucks include the following:

Member referral - $10
Bringing non-member to an event - $5
Adopt-a-member (Ambassador Committee Only)

Week 1 - $5
Week 2 - $3
Week 3 - $2
Week 4 - $1

If an Ambassador is unable to adopt the member they volunteered to by the preceding Ambassador meeting, then the Membership Manager will adopt that member.  This is in no way a negative action, simply a way to insure that all new members get contacted within a reasonable period of time.

Questions about Chamber Bucks should be addressed to Julie Davis, Membership Manager (734) 284-6000 ext. 25,  julie@swccc.org

* Subject to availability.  Admittance to Legislative Forums can only be obtained on the day of the event and if there are seats open.

ABO Volunteering

Thank you so much for volunteering your time to help the Chamber at the After Business, Ours event.  In case you are unsure of what is expected of you, I have composed this outline of ways of working your volunteered position.  Please keep in mind, that you do not have to quote this sheet line for line.  This is so everyone who volunteers has an idea of how to do what they’ve signed up to do.  Make sure you check in with Julie or Jean at the beginning of your shift, so they can mark you present and give you direction.  If you don’t check in with them, you will not be marked present for your volunteered shift and will be expected to pay admittance to the ABO.  Unfortunately, the volunteer sheet becomes quickly filled.  If it has filled up before you can sign up, we can sign you up for the next ABO.

Greeter

Greet incoming guests and show the where to “sign-in”.  Make sure to let them know the cost is $5.00.  Let them know if they drop in their business card they will have a chance to win a door prize.  An example of a good way to greet:

“Good evening, welcome to the After Business, Ours.  The sign-up table is right this way, and there you will find the nametags.  Tonight’s cost is five dollars, unless you already have your tickets.  If so, please give them to Jean when you sign in.  Make sure to drop in a business card for our door prize drawing, and have a great time.”

Filler

You are the social butterfly.  Welcome people who may seem “lost” or look as though they may be feeling “out of place”.  Some examples of how to approach someone include the following:

“Hi, my name is Samantha Rodriguez.  I work for A.J. Marketing, and I’m on the Ambassador Committee for the Chamber.  I  don’t  remember seeing you at the last event, are you a new member?  What business are you in?”

Or try:

“Hi, my name is Bill O’Reilly.  I work for P.C. Technology, and I’m on the Ambassador Committee for the Chamber.  I think I remember seeing you at the last ABO.  What company are you with?  Oh really, have you met Scott Swenson, he was just saying his company could use someone with your services.”

Try to introduce them to other members that you are acquainted with.  If other members approach you to say “hello” make sure to introduce the person you are welcoming.  If it is time for your shift to end, and another ambassador comes to relieve you, introduce the person to the next ambassador, as well.

It is very important to not get caught up in networking while you are supposed to be welcoming.  If another member stops to chat, make it brief, and tell them you will talk more with them later.

Table Helper

Your job is to help those who are setting up tables at the beginning of the ABO, and taking them down at the end.  Ask if they need any help bringing things in from or out to their car. Or, ask if they need help setting up or taking down their tables.

“Hello, my name is Fran Brown.  I am on the Ambassador Committee for the Chamber.  I work at Jan’s Flowers and we had a table last ABO.  Do you need any help bring anything in from your car; let me get that door for you.  Do you want some help setting up your table?”

Miscellaneous

It is not necessary to have a miscellaneous volunteer.  However, sometimes all volunteer positions become filled, and there are still more who wish to volunteer.  If this is the case, we can find something for you to do.  Please do not sign up for miscellaneous volunteering until all the other volunteering positions are filled.

Please make sure you are on time to your volunteered shift, so that the Ambassador working before you can be relieved.
